Charge realistic rates, photographers urged

Mr Gerald Annan Forson, founder member of the Ghana Union of Professional Photographers (GUPP), has called on photographers to desist from charging astronomical and unrealistic fees.

He said “some photographers have developed the habit of charging high fees at programmes including weddings and some take as high as $3000 which is bad and must be stopped".

Mr Forson said this at the sod cutting ceremony for the construction of a multipurpose office of GUPP at Oyibi in the Greater Accra Region.

He said there is the need to use photography to project the country and urged photographers to strive to keep records of their work and keep abreast of technology.

Mr Dan Jim Selassie, President of GUPP, said the two- storey international photo media resource and research centre would comprise photographic library, conference centre, mini-photo and video theatre, computer laboratory and photographer retreat place.

He said the project is expected to be completed in 2017, the year that the Association would be celebrating its 30 years anniversary and urged members to regularly make their contributions.

Mr Ben K. Nyadzi, Executive Director of Copy Ghana, urged all professional photographers to join GUPP and enjoy some of its benefits.
