Buyer advocates Fast Track court for cocoa cases

New Edubiase (Ash), Sept. 30, GNA - Mr Ali Issaka, General Manager of the Adwumapa Buyers Limited, a private cocoa buying company, has suggested the setting up of a Fast Track court to deal solely with offences within the cocoa industry. He said the company alone had about 1,000 cocoa cases pending before the courts, which were not being treated with the dispatch they deserved. Speaking at an awards ceremony organised by the company for its 382 purchasing clerks and farmers drawn from five districts at New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region, Mr Issaka appealed to the Attorney General's Department to speed up the processing of documents on cocoa cases to ensure their speedy clearance.

The company workers were presented with television sets, motorised spraying machines, bicycles, radio cassette recorders, pieces of wax prints and rechargeable lamps among other items. Mr Issaka lauded the government for its efforts at revamping the cocoa industry and urged it to adopt prudent measures to stem the spate of fraudulent deals and cheating within the sector. Mr Dominic Yeboah, Adansi East District Chief Executive, commended the company for the good work it was doing in the district to resuscitate the cocoa industry.
