Be careful with your inflammatory language - Bishop Kantanka

The Right Reverend Professor Osei-Safo Kantanka, Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana (MCG), has cautioned politicians to show decorum and decency in their utterances during the campaigns for the coming elections.

This, he said, was the only way the nation could be spared of antagonism, political violence, bloodshed and tension which are triggered by inflammatory utterances on the part of some politicians.

He reminded all, that Ghana was not different from some of the nations which had been engulfed in political turmoil, pointing out that, “We are not angels and therefore what had befallen those countries could repeat itself on our soil if care is not taken.”

Right Reverend Professor Kantanka was addressing a conference to climax the 27th Anniversary Celebration of the Kumasi Diocese of the Association of Methodist Men’s Fellowships in Kumasi.

It was on the theme “If Men Unite and Change Perfectly in Mind and in Deeds, Nations Change.”

The anniversary sought to review activities of the Association, identify its successes and challenges within the context of Methodism.

The Bishop recounted the significant role played by men in the advent and propagation of Methodism, saying it behooves them to re-strategize and be more committed to campaigning against social vices which were on the increase.

It was their responsibility to constantly act as agents of change to bring down the incidence of corruption, greed, conflicts in the society and also support the poor and needy.

Mr Bright Osei Agyemang, out-going Diocesan Chairman of the Association, said during his three-year tenure, 12 more branches were added to the 73 he inherited.

He was also instrumental in the formation of the Association of Christian Men’s Fellowship.

Mr Agyemang appealed to the in-coming executives to enhance the sustainable growth of Methodism.**
