Bawku cooperative union improves lives of members

Mr. Thomas Azumah, Manager of the Bawku Cooperative Credit union on Wednesday urged customers to develop interest in savings as a surest way to improve their lives and solve unexpected problems.

Mr. Azumah said the Bawku Credit Union had among other objectives to become one of the best and largest unions to serve the needs of people in the Municipality and its environs.

Mr. Azumah gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Bawku in the Upper East Region.

He said the Bawku Cooperative Credit union has over the years assisted its members with loans to improve upon their lives and communities.

Mr Azumah said there are a lot of people in the area who have received the assistance of the union, notably in pursuing their education, acquisition of assets such as buildings and the improvement of their socio-economic lives.

He said as at June 2012, the union had an asset base of GH¢2,586,199.46 with a population of about 3,000 customers.

Mr. Azumah said some of the problems facing the union include irregular payment of loans by customers and the delay in deduction of loans of customers who take their salaries from the Controller and Accountant General Department.
