Alima Mahama supports 2000 people to register with the NHIS

Nalerigu (N/R), April 30, GNA- Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Women and Children's Affairs and Member of Parliament for the Nalerigu-Gambaga Constituency is assisting 2000 old people and other needy members of her community to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

"Health is a very important aspect of life and I do not want my people to suffer for lack of money to seek medical care, when an affordable scheme has been put in place for everybody", she said. Hajia Mahama, who was speaking to some of the beneficiaries in Nalerigu, said she had put aside GH¢50,000 from her share of the MP's Common Fund for that purpose.

She advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the Insurance and seek medical help whenever they felt sick, telling the old people,

"I know some of you my mothers and fathers would say you are not used to going to hospital, but it is important that you stay healthy and strong to help take care of your grand children".

Hajia Mahama reiterated the importance of educating girls and urged parents to encourage their children to go to school, since they would not pay school fees and in some cases would be given lunch, because the Capitation Grant and the School Feeding programmes would take care of all that.

She urged the youth, who had attained 18 years, to register, when the Voters Register opens so that they could vote during the December elections.
