Kufuor and Akufo-Addo must testify before JDC

Inside Ghana wishes to humbly call on Justice Yaw Apau, the Sole Commissioner of the Judgement Debt Commission to invite ex-President John Kufuor and former Attorney General Akufo Addo to testify in the matter of fictitious sale of the Discovery 511 Drill Ship.

Our call stems from the testimonies given by the principal actors, Hon Kan Dapaah and Hon K.T Hammond who seem to be hiding behind these two persons to withhold further information on the dubious sale which we believe would expose the coup mentality and the create loot and share administration of ex-President Kufuor.

The sale of the drill ship and the mystery surrounding the $3.5m balance payment has become murkier after the melodramatic testimony of K.T Hammond and the startling revelations by Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata. Whereas KT Hammond and his former boss Hon. Kan Dapaah seeks refuge from the shadows of ex-President Kufuor and the twice defeated Presidential standard-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr. Tsiaka’s testimony indicts and implicates the two as serving the interest of Societe Generale against that of Ghana. A situation Inside Ghana finds untenable.

Ghanaians would recall the alacrity with which K.T Hammond was jumping from one radio station to another of his own volition in defense of the drill ship transaction for which he became known as the Ship Merchant. A recap of his testimony at the Commission on Monday, 25th November 2013 is a far departure from what he had earlier told Ghanaians. Inside Ghana finds this intriguing and mindboggling, and therefore tempted to believe there is a deliberate attempt to scheme and hide the create loot and share of the Kufuor administration.

For clarity, Ghanaians would therefore want to know from the mouths of the horses, i.e ex-President Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo, the role they played in protecting the interest of Ghana against that of Societe Generale. We believe Mr. Tsikata’s allegation of ex-President Kufuor arrogating himself the power of a debt collector for Societe General must not be taken lightly as that action contravenes an act of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic article 57 (3); “before assuming office the President shall take and subscribe before Parliament the oath of allegiance and the presidential oath set out in the Second Schedule to this Constitution.”

We at Inside Ghana therefore wish to add our voice to the call on the Commissioner to invite ex-President Kufuor and Akufo-Addo to help unravel the drill ship enigma and the conundrum of the balance payment of $3.5m.

Inside Ghana would also take this opportunity to commend H.E the President John Dramani Mahama for his vision and foresight in setting up the Judgement Debt Commission which we believe would help unravel the judgement debt conundrum and its associated corrupt practices. We therefore call on Ghanaians to support the President in the fight against corruption for a better Ghana
