Blows at NDC meeting

It was a near bloodbath when the Kwahu South National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman, Mr. Atta Obeng, alias Sabore, traded blows and insults with the area’s Women Organizer, Madam Sakina Norshie as well as two other executives, during a meeting,

The fracas was said to have occurred when the Women Organiser and others were prevented from attending the meeting which was being held at Mount Sinai Hotel at Bepong, Kwahu, in the Eastern Region last Tuesday.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the said meeting was organized by the aspiring Eastern Regional chairman of the NDC, Oheneba Addo, and was intended to meet only the 33-constituency chairmen in the region, with the aim of appealing to delegates to vote for him in the upcoming regional elections of the party.

Mr. Atta Obeng, upon seeing the Women Organizer entering the venue of the meeting, allegedly stood up from his seat and rushed to prevent the woman from being part of the confab by giving her some punches on her face. The cause of the NDC top man’s action, this paper was told, was a misunderstanding between him and Sakina Norshie concerning the school feeding programme.

The meeting ambience became rowdy, as some of the other executives tried to separate the two but to no avail, until the Kwahu South Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Amoah, was called upon to deploy some of his men to intervene.

However, some media practitioners who upon hearing the incident rushed to the scene were purportedly driven away by the same chairman, saying the journalists had not been invited.

The Aspiring Regional NDC chairman, who expressed disappointment about the mayhem, attempted to reconcile the Chairman and the Woman Organizer, but it yielded no fruits. The meeting was, therefore, put on hold.

Some of the NDC constituency chairmen, who spoke told DAILY GUIDE in separate interviews, confirmed the incident and expressed shock about the happening.

One chairman told this paper that he had a phone call on Sunday that there would be a meeting at Kwahu-Bepong for some discussions concerning the upcoming elections, but never thought there was going to be an exchange of blows.

The paper learnt that some of the angry chairmen hurriedly left the venue in their Mahindra vehicles, thereby failing to collect their meeting allowances.

Neither of the belligerent NDC executives was available for comments at the time of going to press.
