Politics of Friday, 11 April 2014
An aspiring national Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Paul Afoko, has assured members of the party that he has no evil intention against the party’s 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, and his two-time running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
Mr. Afoko on April 7, 2014 wrote to the national elections committee, demanding that both Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia be excluded from voting at Saturday’s national delegates’ congress of the party.
His statement drew a lot of reaction from the party’s rank and file with the party’s elections committee rejecting Mr. Afoko’s call for a meeting with all candidates to deal with the issue before Saturday’s conference.
Despite the controversy surrounding his candidature, Mr. Afoko is optimistic of winning the Chairmanship race. He told Citi News in Tamale on Friday that the media propaganda against him would not affect his chances of winning the Chairmanship slot.
He commended all his supporters for their loyalty and commitment during the difficult campaign times.
Mr. Afoko also thanked all NPP delegates for granting him audience during his campaign, and pleaded with them to let their love and sympathy reflect on the ballot.
