MP for Ledzokuku calls for peace in recent Teshie dispute

Mrs Benita Sena Okity-Duah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledzokuku constituency, on Friday, urged all the factions in the chieftaincy dispute in Teshie, to let peace prevail in the town.

She said as opposing factions, they will definitely have contrary views, but for the interest of “our beloved constituency, you should all agree to discuss the issues rather than resorting to violence”.

Mrs Okity-Duah said this in a statement on the floor of Parliament on the need for calm in Teshie.

She called on the factions to resolve the unfortunate disturbance that happened on June 20, 2013, where a life was lost, and teachers and school children were left terrified, saying, ”this must never happen in the constituency again”.

“We in the constituency should never again attack people because of differences that exist between us, it is important to note that the people of Teshie belong to one lineage and must at all times protect each other from any form of harm,” She noted.

Mrs Okity-Duah urged all interested parties to make good use of the avenues for seeking redress when it comes to Chieftaincy issues in Ghana, for such bodies to find lasting solutions to the dispute.

She appealed to the Ghana Police Service and the other security agencies to be firm in maintaining law and order within the constituency and commended the security agencies for their swift response which averted further destruction and harm, adding that, more needs to be done to consolidate the current fragile peace in the constituency.

The MP assured the residents that their life and property would be protected as the security agencies were on top of the issue and expressed her condolence to the bereaved family and wished the injured speedy recovery.

Mrs Okity Duah emphasized the importance of chiefs in the constituency saying that they partner government in various ways to ensure the needed development in the communities and this calls for peace and calm.
