The bye-election to elect a Member of Parliament (MP) for the vacant Buem Constituency of the Volta Region, is set for February 26, 2013.
Mr Mohammed Shani Abukari, Jasikan District Officer of the Electoral Commission, said five political parties have filed nominations for their respective candidates to contest in the bye-election that will take place in all the 84 polling stations in the constituency.
He named the parliamentary candidates as Mr Daniel Kwasi Ashiamah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Adams Darko-Boateng of the People's National Convention (PNC), Mr Ellis Akoto-Ade of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Alhaji Muniru of the National Vision Party (NVP) and Nelson Asafo of the Convention People's Party (CPP).
Mr Abukari said the Electoral Commission has posted notices of the polls since last Saturday throughout the constituency, while party vans have been doing the rounds, campaigning for the respective candidates.
The bye-election became necessary due to the death of the former Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, Mr Henry Ford Kamel, who passed away on December 25th last year.
