Akufo-Addo suspends campaign in Eastern Region

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party NPP), has called off his campaign tour in the Eastern Region due to the sudden death of the former Vice President under the Kufour Administration, Alhaji Aliu Mahama.

Nana Akufo-Addo was scheduled to tour the newly created constituencies in the region and Nkawkaw on Friday.

Speaking to journalists at Bunso after addressing a rally at Anyinam, Nana Akufo-Addo said the death of the former Vice- President was a sad day in the history of Ghana.

The NPP Presidential candidate said he received the sad news of the death of Aliu Mahama, a stalwart of the NPP, as a shock.

Nana Akufo-Addo said he visited the late Aliu Mahama on Sunday at the hospital and felt a great deal of anxiety and concern when he saw the condition in which he was and prayed for his speedy recovery.

He described the late Aliu Mahama as a man who gave a good account of himself in public service and exhibited it greatly when he became Vice President to Former President Kufour.

He said the late Vice President singularly held up the party’s fortunes throughout the country and was well loved by the NPP faithful.

“He was dependable and loyal to Kufour and his government and all of us always valued his counsel”, Nana Akufo-Addo said.

Nana Akufo-Addo expressed his condolence to the bereaved family, the wife, Hajia Ramatu Mahama, former President Kufour, the NPP family and entire nation.

“I mourn deeply with the widow, Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama, the children and the entire family,” he said.

He said he wished the Former Vice President could have lived to witness the victory of the NPP in the December polls.

Nana Akufo-Addo has since returned to Accra
