Let’s protect our political achievements - Minister

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, has said it is important for all Ghanaians to refrain from acts that may compromise the achievements of the country’s democratic state.

He remained upbeat saying the country would conduct a peaceful national poll, coupled with the assurance by the President saying “God would surely be with us to overcome all unexpected challenges”. Dr. Agyemang-Mensah was addressing a large gathering of Muslims who gathered at the fore-court of the Central mosque to offer prayers to Allah in the celebration of the Eid-ul-Adha festival in Kumasi.

The regional minister asked that they continue to pray for God’s guidance and protection of the President and members of Government to enable them continue in their efforts to improve the economy and ensure democratic transparent governance.

He admonished all religious leaders and other stakeholders in the region to step up efforts at educating people on the need to participate massively in the elections and vote for humble, God-fearing and respected people.

Dr. Agyemang-Mensah said as they celebrate the festival, it was important that they meditate over its meaning and educate the young ones to understand and appreciate its significance.

He also spoke on the importance of education and appealed to them to let education of their children be their priority.

“Let us ignore the habit of acquiring and storing wealth at the expense of securing bright and secured future for our children”, he said.

Sheikh Abdul Moumin Haroun, the Regional Chief Imam, thanked God for his sustained mercy and blessings for the nation.

He appealed to the youth to lead upright lives and refrain from acts that would bring the name of the religion into disrepute.

Baffour Asabere Yekogyawoasu III, Chief Priest of Asantehene, called for peace, love and understanding as well as unity of purpose among them.
