NDC confident of winning more parliamentary seats in Ashanti Region

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed optimism about winning more parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region, the hotbed of political opposition, in the December 7 general elections.

The party currently boasts of only three seats out of the region’s total of 39, but the Regional Chairman, Mr. Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, said he is confident things would change this time round.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that they were going to wrest at least nine additional constituencies from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to raise their share to 12 but said he would not go into details of the seats they had targeted except to say, “We are working tirelessly to make this happen.”

He said NDC was moving to every community and from house-to-house to tell the success story of the government to in over more voters.

Mr. Obimpeh said they were in no doubt that the electorate would reward the NDC with their votes, given the massive infrastructure development brought to the region within the last four years and mentioned roads, classroom blocks and health facilities, supply of furniture, books and free school uniforms among other things.

He praised the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives for what, he said, was the “excellent job they are doing to transform the living conditions of the people”.
