Local Government Minister inspects newly created Districts in ER

Cabinet has approved GH¢42,000,000 to support newly created districts nationwide, Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development said on Thursday.

He said each of the Districts would be allocated GH¢1,000,000 as their share of the District Assembly Common Fund.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo said this at Aburi during his visit to some newly created districts in the Eastern Region to access their preparation pending their inauguration soon.

He appealed to chiefs and people of the newly created districts to embrace the government’s ideas and contribute their quota to the development of their communities.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo said the government believed in decentralization and democracy, hence the creation of the districts to bring development to the doorsteps of the people.

He appealed to them to contribute positively to the government’s effort in accelerating the pace of development in their communities.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo reiterated the government’s commitment to transform and develop every area in the country to ensure that Ghanaians live in dignity.

He said the government would not relent in its efforts to improve the lives of every Ghanaian by creating jobs and putting in place policies and programmes.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo appealed to chiefs to willingly release lands towards construction of offices and bungalows for the assemblies.**
