Party agents unhappy about registration anormalies

Party agents at some registration centres in the Agortime-Ziope District, have called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to rectify some anomalies in the biometric voters registration exercise in the area.

The agents, who represented the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed reservations at the non-availability of forms for logging in and logging out as well as for indicating possible challenges and irregularities at the centres.

They also complained to the Ghana News Agency that the slow registration process, and problems with some registration machines were affecting enthusiasm towards the exercise.

GNA realized that at some of the centres the exercise took off on time with relatively high turn-out.

Meanwhile, some NDC activists in the district paraded the streets with megaphones singing patriotic songs and urging people to turn out for the registration.

They also engaged the people one-on-one to convince them to register towards the December 7 Election.

Mr Saka Dodzi, leader of the team, said the move became necessary given the “poor publicity” to the exercise by the EC.

“We are not happy about the turn-out at all. Many people are not aware of the exercise. The few who are aware also did not know where to register,” he lamented.

At the Agortime Senior High Scholl centre, turn-out was generally low and by noon only 35 people had registered.
