Volta Receive only part of ballot papers for local elections

Ho, Dec 28, GNA - Some of the ballot papers for the District Level Elections, deferred from Tuesday to Wednesday in the Volta Region, had been received in Ho and dispatched.

Miss Laurentia Kpatakpa, the Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), told the GNA on Tuesday that more ballot papers would arrive within hours to be sent to the appropriate centres. She said indications were that balloting in some areas in the region might have to be delayed yet again for another day and held on Thursday. Miss Kpatakpa said the printing presses were challenged by the complexity of the job but were trying hard to deliver. She said the printers had had to make sure that pictures of candidates were not swapped.

Miss Kpatakpa said some staff of the EC was at the printing presses to cross check the ballot papers for mistakes before they were packaged. Scores of institutional vehicles mobilized for use by the EC to get materials to the districts were parked in the EC premises in Ho while their drivers waited fore orders.

The elections for Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members were scheduled for Tuesday across the country but rescheduled for Tuesday and Thursday for eight of the 10 regions because of the delayed delivery of ballot papers.
