Stop the intimidation – Election Watch Group

The Election Watch Group (EWG) has called on executives of the National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti Region to desist from intimidating party members.

They said fearing that they could lose their positions some executives have resorted to intimidating party members.

The Group, which is an amalgamation of youth groups of the party in the region, issued the warning in a press release saying it would not hesitate to make public the names of the executives involved in the “criminal tactics”.

The release signed jointly by Elyass Abdul-Salam, the Co-ordinator and Martin Abanga, the President of Lordina Mahama Fan Club, also intimated that names of all executives, Municipal and District Chief Executives who failed to campaign for the party but are lobbying for positions would be published by the group in due course to assist the President in his appointments.

“We have learnt with great surprise of how some regional party executives, municipal and district chief executives are lobbying for positions, blowing their horns on how they contributed to retain the party in power, but we know best that it was few executive members and the foot soldiers that actually worked for the party in the region.”

The expressed unhappiness about how some of the executives failed to pick their phones after repeated calls to discuss pertinent issues about the campaign and even when “you go to their offices, the sycophants around them will not allow you to see them”.

It said “it is a fact that some of you are aware that you did not help the party because you thought we would not win the elections that was why you did not put in much money given to you by the party and yet you are now using criminals to attack those who worked massively to ensure the party’s victory”.

The release commended the various youth groups including the media monitors, John Mahama Movement, Zongo for Mahama, Lordina Mahama Fan Club, Zongo Caucus, John Mahama for President and the Cadres group for their commitment to duty during the electioneering period.

“We want to encourage the group to work harder to improve the percentage votes won in the region from 28.35 per cent to over 30 per cent in 2016”, the release stated.
