The members, activists and sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra Region are in jubilant mood ahead of the launch tomorrow of its parliamentary nominee, Samuel Nartey George’s, official campaign.

Some top hierarchy members of the NDC are expected to grace the occasion with powerful speeches.

However, the executive body of the party of the constituency at a press conference last Wednesday reacted to a recent allegation leveled against the party’s nominee as the mastermind of the recent violence that erupted during the Homowo durbar for the people of the Ningo Traditional Area.

The party executives indicated that the NDC as a political entity which is focused on victory in the 2016 general elections and therefore have no interest in the traditional affairs of the traditional council.

In his address, the Constituency Secretary, Cephas Kwasi Tei, stated that the party respects the constitutional autonomy of both traditional councils and as a political party and that they would not engage in any act that might affect the peace being enjoyed by the people in the area.

The Homowo festival, he said, was organized by the Ningo Traditional Council and they (the NDC) only visited the council with the party’s nominee to make their presentation as a political party to support the ceremony but not to disrupt it as was reported in the media.

“How could somebody who sponsored an event with a huge amount of money turn to disrupt its beauty after” he queried.
