Nana Addo Shouldn’t Beat Around The Bush This Time

Ahead of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Presidential Debate slated to take place in Tamale, Tuesday night, a member of the Government’s Communication Team, has counseled flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, not to speak in his usual jumbled manner with pursed lips when answering questions.

Agbesi Nutsu claims the NPP flagbearer has a penchant of combining various languages in a mishmash way to establish a fact he wants to put across; especially when caught in a difficult position.

He therefore expects him to address issues head-on and skip the language combination antics he normally deploys.

“He should not be beating around the bush this time,” Nutsu warned.

The IEA Presidential debate is billed to take place at the Radach Hotel in the Northern Regional capital a few hours from now and President John Dramani Mahama will be the first sitting president to partake in the debate.

The event is to provide a platform for the parties and their candidates with representations in Parliament, to share their opinions on major policy issues and to hand prospective voters a rare opportunity to assess their preparedness to govern if given the mandate.

Organizers say there will be three rounds of debate, three minutes each for the candidates to answer questions which will cover issues on the economy, social sector, and private sector development and industrialization.

But speaking on Okay FM’s political talk-show programme, “Ghana Decides”, Mr Nutsu was of the considered opinion that the momentum of the campaign has swung in favour of the incumbent with barely two months to the general elections, and believes the NPP flagbearer will have a lot to do to play catch-up.

He dismissed the assertion that Nana Addo, being is a good orator, might outshine the other candidates and win over the electorate with public speaking skills.

“What shows that Nana Addo is a good orator? He only uses a combination of “Larteh – Akuapim (twi), Ashanti- Twi combined with French” dialect to confuse his listeners,” the NDC communicator said.
