NDC postpones congress

Accra, Sept. 9, GNA - The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress on Friday announced the postponement of the party's national delegates' congress from September 30 to December 16, 2005.

A statement issued by the Party and signed by Mr. Bede Ziedeng, Acting General Secretary, said the decision followed a review of the processes of branch elections, constituency and regional conferences, which should culminate in the holding of the national congress.

"The postponement has become necessary because these processes cannot be completed even by the end of this month (September) to pave the way for the National Congress to be held on the 30th of September 2005."

The NEC urged all party structures at the various levels to redouble their efforts at ensuring that they held their elections and conferences in accordance with a revised timetable to be sent out through an official circular in due course.

The NEC also called on members and supporters to close their ranks, remain united and rally behind the leadership towards the objective of wresting power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2008. "Asawase and Odododiodoo have come to establish that the 2008 elections belong to the NDC and we must work toward achieving that objective," the statement added.
