Let’s all support Carlos –Adwoa Amoako

ONE of the losing candidates in the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Tema West primaries, Mrs. Adwoa Amoako has called for unflinching support for the winner, Mr. Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, as he steps out to bring everybody on board, in the run up to the 2016 general elections

In a statement issued in Tema yesterday, she said: “Unity is key in everything we do. The elections have come and gone. What we need to do now is to forge ahead as one big family with one great destiny, and I am extremely happy that our candidate is thinking along those lines.

She lauded Carlos for his decision bring former Majority Leader, Abraham Ossei-Aidoo, who she claimed had been sidelined after his defeat in the 2008 primaries, back to the mainstream of the party’s affairs in the Constituency.

“I also fully endorse Carlos’s move to give the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, a lead role in his Campaign Team, in the run up to the 2016 general elections as well as extend all privileges to her even at the end of her term.

“There is a lot of work to be done between now and Election 2016 and we have to strategise well to ensure that the NPP achieves its hopes and aspirations,” she added.

“Our focus must be two-fold – To make our dear party stronger in the constituency than ever before and also to ensure that Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo becomes the next President of Ghana. It is a huge task and we must work really hard to achieve just that”.

“In the last election, there was a lot of ‘skirt and blouse’ voting. Our parliamentary candidate won by a mere 900 votes, while the presidential candidate won massively.

“We must avoid such unpalatable situation in 2016. There must be no division in our ranks. We must present a united front to ensure that we win massively in both parliamentary and presidential races,” she added.

She also appealed to every true supporter of the party in the Constituency not to turn a deaf ear to the peace overtures being extended by Carlos but to join the bandwagon and move the party to greater heights between now and the 2016 elections.

Adwoa Amoako was also full of praise for the delegates for comporting themselves during the exercise and was particularly grateful to the delegates who cast their votes for her.

“The Good Book says we should give thanks in all circumstances and I am really grateful to the Lord God Almighty for everything that happened. This was only an election. It wasn’t a do-and-die affair and so life goes on unabated,” she added.

She congratulated the police for the professional manner they maintained peace and order before, during and after the event, adding that “the country expects that high level of professionalism from the rank and file of our security going into the 2016 elections”.

She also lauded officials of the Tema Metropolitan Electoral Commission for doing what she described as “a great job”.
