Legon Student to contest Ayawaso West Wuogon seat

Accra, Nov. 30, GNA - A student of the University of Ghana, Osagyefo Dakurah Collins on Friday declared his intention to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat in Accra.

He said in a statement issued in Accra: " ..by my candidature, the youth and/or the student front would be seeking to move from serving the whims and (interests) of partisan elements and begin to chart a new path towards advancing the common good of the motherland, and widen the frontiers of economic, social and academic freedom."

He claimed the incumbent MP, Mrs Frema Opare was not concerned about the welfare of the constituents, citing, "her unusual, uncharacteristic and unnecessarily unnatural silence" during clashes between the police and students who were protesting a new residential policy of authorities of the University of Ghana.

He said he hoped that before long, "the youth would have a credible and an independent voice in Parliament to influence and advocate policies that are aimed at unearthing the talent and potential of the Ghanaian youth".
