Late start of Biometric Voter registration exercise in Kwahu West

The Biometric Voter’s registration exercise started between 07.30 and 0800 hours on Saturday in many centres in the Kwahu West Municipality.

The registration officers attributed the late start of the exercise to problems with the computers and printers and relocation of some of the centres which also led to low registration of eligible voters.

Some of the registration centres such as market square “A” had registered 15 people as at 08.40 hours whiles 11 people had been registered at Accra Town Health Centre “A".

Seven people registered at Health centre “B” as at 09.30 hours, whiles at Market Square “B”, 18 people had been registered as at 09.40 hours.

Only the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had agents at the centres, whiles the eligible voters in the queue complained of the slow process of the exercise.

When the Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr Owiredu Boateng, was contacted, he said adequate materials had been received for the exercise in the municipality for the 40-day period.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Somuah Obeng, who also went round to monitor the exercise said he was impressed with the process.

He advised all eligible voters to cooperate with the officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure the success of the exercise in the municipality.**
