Fulfill promises made to Gomoa people, President urged

Nana Opoku Mensah Abobo Egyir V, Sanaahene of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to endeavour to fulfill campaign promises made to the two traditional areas of Gomoa.

He said President Mahama during his visit to Gomoa Akyempim and Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Areas before the December 7, elections, promised to improve living conditions of the people when given the nod.

Nana Egyir made this known at the installation ceremony of Nana Yenku Akurogo Amegyir II, Tufohene and Nana Saah Akuapreh, Omankrado of Gomoa Akwakrom respectively.

The installation also coincided with the climax of the Annual Akwambo Festival of the Chiefs and people of the town.

He said the President promised to improve poor road networks, quality health care, water, education and sanitation to enhance quality living standards of the people.

The Sanaahene said the people also voted massively for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) which enabled it to win all the three seats in Gomoa Area.

Nana Egyir praised Plan Ghana and Camfed Ghana, both Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating in the area for their roles in promoting girl-child education in Gomoa West.

Nana Efuah Amokwandowah I, Chief of Gomoa Akwamkrom expressed concern about the discrimination meted out to the people of Akwakrom.

She said in the run up to the December 7, General elections, the Gomoa West Assembly and Feeder Roads collaborated and started to reshape some roads in the District but unfortunately left out the road linking Akwakrom and Gomoa Dawurampong/Apam Junction.

She said the poor road network in the area was hampering the facilitation of smooth transportation of farm produce to the market centers.

Nana Amokwandowah expressed concern about behaviour of some politicians who have refused to honour invitation extended to them after the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Nana Yenku Akurogo Amegyir appealed to the parents to invest in their children’s education and pledged to collaborate with NGOs and the District Assembly to reverse the situation.

He cautioned the youth to desist from pre-marital sex to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Nana Saah Akuapreh called for unity and understanding among the people saying without this, there would no peace and development.
