Damoah elected to the Council of State

Sekondi, Feb 08, GNA - Mr Paul Kwabeng Damoah, a 72-year-old agriculturist at Wassa Akropong, was on Tuesday elected as the Western Regional representative on the Council of State.

He polled 15 out of the votes cast by the Electoral College made up two representatives, including the presiding members, from each of the 13 district assemblies in the region.

Mr Francis Nyamikeh Ellion, a 64-year-old retired teacher did not have any vote. Awulae Agyefi Kwame the II, 63, Omanhene of Nsein Traditional Area, had four votes and Mr Francis Quansah, a retired educationist had seven votes.

Two other persons who filed their nomination papers withdrew just before the elections.

They are Mr George Offoegbu, a 77-year-old trader and Supi Ebo Bentsi-Enchill, a 70-year-old legal practitioner.

Speaking after his elections, Mr Damoah said one of his first tasks would be to resolve the numerous chieftaincy disputes that were holding back the development of the region.

He said he intended to work with the traditional authorities in the region to put a stop to litigations.

Mr Damoah said he would help come out with a blueprint for the overall development of the region with focus on the development of roads and other social infrastructure.
