Cape Coast records low turn-out in District Level Election

Cape Coast, Dec. 28, GNA - A number of polling centres in the Cape Coast Metropolis, have witnessed low patronage of the District Assembly Election. A total of 2,459 registered voters were expected to cast their votes i= n three separate polling centres, however, only 176 electorates had cast thei= r votes as at 1300 hours.

Madam Cecilia Mills, Presiding Officer at the Flowers Gay Polling Centre, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Cape Coast, commended the Electoral Commission for providing adequate logistics for the exercise on time. At the Adisadel Pentecost Church Polling Centre, the Presiding Officer= , Mr Isaac Kwofie expressed dissatisfaction about the slow pace at which people were coming to vote, adding that the publicity on the elections was low. He observed that the public were either not aware of the scheduled dat= e or were simply apathetic towards the exercise. Two voters who spoke to the GNA complained of the ineffectiveness of most assembly members in their communities, which they said could be the reason behind the voter apathy.

At the time the GNA visited Jukwa, where four polling centres are situated, a total of 360 people had cast their votes out of the 3328 names on the voters register.

Between 1200 and 1300 hours Anglican Junior High School (JHS); had recorded 132 voters, Pentecost Chapel; 45, DA Primary, 17, and Methodist JHS, 166.
