CPP Grassroot Members Embraces Samia’s Christmas Gesture

As members of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) were preparing to join the whole nation in celebrating Christmas, the leadership of the party under the auspices of the national chairperson and leader, Hon Samia Yaba Nkrumah, sent to all constituencies a package to energise them ahead of the New Year. The package can be described as an organisation tool which included party registration forms, party ID cards, CPP posters and some monies for organizers to use in pasting posters and two separate letters signed by the Leader of the party and the General Secretary addressed to party comrades in every part of the country. It is unprecedented in the history of the CPP under the fourth Republican Constitution for such widely circulated but rapid organisational action to be taken.

Under past leadership, logistics would usually be sent whenever the Presidential candidate is in a presidential campaign mood or election tour. That is seemingly or indirectly under the directives of the party’s flagbearer. This, however, have persistently created nationwide political dormancy at the grassroots until when party aspiring presidential candidates feel their ambitions are ripe to go round the country. The action by Samia’s leadership has brought optimism to renewed ways of organising according to collective priority and available resources.

Moreover, credible sources have confirmed positive responses coming from party members especially at the Constituency and ward levels for this marvelous show of political commitment to strengthening the base. The people continue to express delight to the items not simply because its’ arrival was most timely as the whole nation was preparing to celebrate the Christmas but especially because it has rekindled their hope in the Samia-leadership. Before then their minds had been stirred by perceived confusion in the party, their political faith had been demoralised by some unscrupulous and failed attempt for early congress by a gang of reactionary anti-ideological individuals within the CPP who would hide under the banner of an unrecognized office.

Significance as a Christmas gesture for party organisation, the CPP posters, for instance, will serve as a visibility sign and political presence in areas where they’ve been pasted. It will seek to facilitate enrollment into the party. It is a sign of good beginning.

Could we describe the remarkable and surprise action by the leadership to be a spring board to motivate the party’s grassroots in working to form polling station branch committee? Certainly!

Early response from the people revealed their delight in such inspiring and hopeful political season assured to them by the leader of the party. Samia Nkrumah expressed genuine appreciation for the confidence and trusts the grassroots have in her and assured them to keep faith in the anti-neocolonial struggle to lift the CPP up to higher levels. She pleaded to them not to get distracted with recent development which can only help the party separate the bad seeds from the good seeds. In fact, calls which came from party members in several parts of the country to the office of the General Secretary expressed joy to the words of the leader, particularly to the point where she reiterated to them to know that the good seeds we all [CPP] planted at Congress will germinate and grow into beautiful forest.

No matter the shameless un-appreciation by a few compradors in the party for the efforts being made by the leadership, we can undoubtedly endorse this action as a good start for the leadership toward bridging the gap between the top elites and the oppressed grassroots base.

As promised, sources have disclosed that the leader and national chairperson will be visiting the regions during the holiday season and early next year to meet with them and together will comprehend how to move forward as far as organisation, communication and party education are concerned.
