Assembly members urged to live up to campaign promises

Akwatia, Oct. 27, GNA - Osabarima Kofi Boateng III, Akwatiahene, has urged the recently elected assembly members to live up to their pre-election campaign promises by helping to develop their communities. He said often, most assembly members won elections because of their campaign promises only to disappoint the electorate. Addressing the newly elected assembly members for Akwatia at a meeting with the Akwatia Traditional Council, Osabarima Boateng said much was expected of them and they dared not fail. He criticized the poor performance of some former assembly members whom he accused of not organizing communal labour and therefore left their communities in filth.

Osabarima Boateng said the Akwatia Urban Council existed only in name and called on the new assembly members to work hard to ensure sound environmental sanitation in the area.

He expressed his displeasure at the politicisation of almost all issues and reminded the new assembly members that the District Assembly and its sub-structures were supposed to be non-partisan. Osabarima Boateng urged both winners and losers in the district assembly elections to co-operate in the interest of their communities. Mr Joseph Asiedu, on behalf of his colleagues, promised that the assembly members would live up to expectation and called for the co-operation of all.
