Legon win bronze at W/A Volley/Handball Champs

The University of Ghana made the nation proud with a bronze medal win at the November 12-18 held West Africa Hand/Volleyball Championship in Benin.

Legon survived a keen contest to win the women's volleyball bronze,falling behind host,Abomey Calavi University of Benin and the University of Lagos, first and second position winners respectively.

The championship had three other Ghanaian contesting Universities in the University of Science and Technology,University of Cape Coast and University of Education,Winneba failing in their bids to register on the medals roll of honour.

Abomey Calavi proved too strong also to win the men's volleyball which had the Olabisi Olabanjo University and Imo State University emerging in that order.

The Obafemi Awolowo University of Ife,Nigeria,Abomey Calavi and Benin's University of Parakou placed in that order in the handball men whilst in the women's division, Abomey emerged winner followed by Universite Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar,Senegal.

Anthony Adjei Tetteh-Opai,the Head Coach at the Sports Directorate of the University of Ghana told me a total of 15 universities-four from Ghana,two from Benin ,one from Senegal and eight from Nigeria-participated in the three-nation championship.
