Government committed to supporting national sporting teams

Accra, Oct. 29, GNA - The Minister of Youth and Sports, Ms Akua Sena Dansua has reaffirmed Government's commitment to support national teams to improve on their performance and achieve the needed results. Ms Dansua therefore assured the senior Women's national football team, the Black Queens that necessary arrangements have been put in place to motivate them to excel at the up-coming African Women's Championship slated for South Africa.

She therefore advised the team to hold aloft the flag of Ghana as they once again compete in the championship and to put their acts together to ensure that they make the country proud by exhibiting sterling performance to come out tops.

The Minister also urged the team to be focused and play to the instructions of their technical handlers, avoid complacency and be disciplined to enable them win the ultimate Cup for the first time. Ms Dansua called on all Ghanaians to remember the team in their prayers and lend their fullest support to their exploits during the tournament.

The Queens have been in Germany for the past ten days fine tuning their preparations towards the championship and are expected back home on Friday evening before emplaning to South Africa on Saturday. They would play their opening match against Algeria on Monday and then meet the defending champions, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon in Group B. The two finalist of the South Africa competition will qualify for the 2011 Women's World Cup slated for Germany. 29 Oct. 10
