Volleyball Coach pleads for support

Head of Coach of the senior national volleyball team, Black Spikers, Iddrisu Ibn Adams has pleaded with government to provide the Ghana Volleyball Association (GVA) with their needed infrastructure.

He said it behooves on government to provide sports infrastructure for the youth in the country.

Coach Adams made this appeal during the just ended Africa Zone III volleyball cup of Nations held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He said “if the government can provide the volleyball team with a gymnasium and volleyball court, the national teams can have adequate preparations for international competitions.”

He again urged government to provide the necessary financial assistance by way of per diems and allowances so as to keep the players because they also represent the national colors.

The coach commended the President of GVA, Mr Paul Atchoe for his continuous support to the development and promotion of volleyball in the country.

He added that indoor volleyball is no longer a leisure sport therefore it is important for Ghanaians to attach the needed seriousness to as they accord other disciplines.

“This is the time Ghana needs to know that volleyball is not a leisure sport again so we must be serious about it because we should know that football is also not the only sport in Ghana,” he said.

At the end of the competition, Ghana’s female team won the Ladies category while the men finished second to Nigeria.

However, Ghana and Nigeria will be representing the Zone III for the upcoming All Africa Games in Congo next month.
