Sapholda retain Bajfreight gala trophy

....as rain halts play.

Sapholda last Saturday retained the Bajfreight and Logistics Hockey Gala seniors trophy with a 3-1 victory over Multistix before intense rain halted the rest of the final matches at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra.
Prolific striker Mason James scored twice in the third and 15th minutes, while his Sapholda teammate Alfred Armah added another goal in the fifth minute before Nii Armah converted a consolation goal for Multistix from a penalty corner.
On their way to the final, the champions edged out Citizens 1-0 in a preliminary round match and defeated Veterans by the same scoreline in the semi-finals, while losing finalists Multistix beat NDK Financiers 3-1 in the semi-finals.
In the men's contest, Exchequers of the Bank of Ghana stunned Police 3-2 and beat Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) 4-2 on their way to booking a date with favourites, Trustees, who accounted for Goldensticks 1-0 and Reformers 4-0.
Defending ladies champions, Police, made the final with 1-0 victories over GRA ladies and Extinguishers, while fellow finalists, Reformers, thrashed Ark Ladies 3-0 before easing past Amazing Grace 2-0.
The chairman of the Greater Accra Hockey Association, George Haizel, told the Daily Graphic that the competition would resume on Saturday at the same venue.
"The weather is something we don't have control of but the safety of all the players comes first. I would like to assure all our patrons that the Bajfreight Gala continues next Saturday at three pm."
Mr Haizel also added that the GAHA remains hopeful of convincing Bajfreight and Logistics to extend their current sponsorship of the gala.
