Measures Against Cholera Outbreak Initiated

Winneba (C/R), Nov. 4, GNA-The District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya Mr Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye on Friday charged Assembly Members, Religious Leaders, Chiefs, Heads of Educational Institutions, Unit Committees, Area and Town Councils in the District to play active role in the national crusade against Cholera. He also called on all hospitality facility operators, particularly chop bar and drinking bar operators in the district to maintain the highest standards of domestic and environmental hygiene all the time to make the District a cholera-free zone.

The call was contained in a circular issued to the various State organizations, organized social groups, establishments, institutions, hoteliers, churches and Islamic Movements in the District. The circular signed on behalf of the Chief Executive by Mr Mahamadu Abdulai, District Environmental Health Officer, stressed the importance of the maintenance of sound domestic and environmental sanitation at all times, saying that was the best way of protecting people in the District against the disease.

Mr Abbam-Quaye reminded people in the area of the outbreak and the fact that people have died from the disease in some parts of the country and strongly counselled them to take the control measures spelt out in the circular seriously to avoid untimely death. He cautioned the people in the District against the use of the beaches, bushes and other unauthorized places as convenient spots for easing themselves.

Mr Abbbam-Quaye charged parents, teachers and guardians to ensure that their children washed their hands very well before taking their meals and also after visiting nature's call. He expressed the hope that stakeholders in the area would accept the challenge to sensitise the people on the disease to ensure continued peaceful, healthier and progressive society.
