Birim Central NHIS registers more people

The Birim Central Municipal National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has registered over 71,000 people for the biometric registration since the exercise started in April.

Mr Julius Nelimor, the Municipal Manager of the NHIS, said this in an interview with the GNA at Akyem Oda.

He said unlike the previous time, when a client would wait for about a year before a card is issued to him or her, this time round, “you take the card the same day and you are gone”.

Mr Nelimor attributed the large crowd that is seen at the place to the fact that the exercise was centred at the main Akyem Oda office.

“To be able to service all of them, we are working 24 hours every day including holidays” he said.

Mr Nelimor said though the exercise was going on smoothly, there are some few challenges.

He said, working long hours without resting was having a toll on them and clients put pressure on the staff with some of them “hurling insults on us”.
