Reproductive Health NGO assists Weighing Centres

Future Generations International (FUGI), non-governmental organization on Reproductive and Child Health (RCH), has donated 22 tables and 66 chairs worth 8,400 Ghana Cedis to 22 Community Weighing Centres (CWCs) in the Adaklu District.

“During our two years… in the district, we noted the absence of tables and chairs for immunization in most Programme communities”, Dr Joan Awunyo-Akaba, Executive Director, said at the handing over ceremony.

FUGI has been implementing a series of Programmes and Projects aimed at improving the delivery and patronage of Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) and related services in that District.

Mr Charles Azagba, the District Director of Health Services (DDHS), said the chairs and tables would make the nurses feel comfortable at work and help increase immunization coverage and family planning delivery.

He said FUGI has helped the District Health Directorate to train 60 Community Based Surveillance Volunteers (CBSVs) to assist nurses in Child Welfare Centres in the District.

Mr Azagba said FUGI has also developed a Register with inputs from nurses in the district to capture immunization records and other relevant health events in the District.

“This Register helps the nurses to keep track of specific community immunization clients and follow-up on defaulters in these communities.”

Mr Azagba said FUGI’s activities in the district have helped to increase immunization coverage from 65 percent in 2009 to 86 percent in 2013.
