Mayor Commissions Specialized Facility for Cholera Cases

... At Korle-Bu Polyclinic

The Mayor of Accra Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, has commissioned a renovated specialised facility for Cholera cases at the Korle-Bu Polyclinic at a cost of GH¢71,000.00.
The Mayor and his team also helped the Clinic to construct toilet and bathroom facilities for cholera patients and its related illnesses.
This gesture was in fulfilment of a promise the Mayor made to the Management of the Clinic to undertake the project within ten days, when he visited the clinic and donated some items towards the care and treatment of cholera cases at the facility.
Commissioning the facility which houses cholera patients, the Mayor, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije expressed satisfaction at the work done by both doctors and nurses of the clinic in meeting the challenges of the cholera menace.
According to him, the program was as a result of a pledge he made to help complete the construction of an ongoing toilet facility, a store room and a specialised ward for cholera cases within a period of ten days.
To this end, the AMA made available GH¢10,000.00 towards the projects which indeed, have been completed on time.
The ward which has been renovated was put in a more conducive atmosphere for patients and more comfortable for doctors and nurses to work.
The Mayor averred that the facilities, although not too much, will at the short time, allow for the smooth running of the clinic activities and help accommodate cholera cases.

In a related development, Mayor also presented five (5) wheel chairs at the cost of GH¢2,850.00 to the Korle-Bu Polyclinic. He explained that, he was moved by a gesture someone made at the hospital during his visit that the hospital does not have wheel chairs.
"This moved me so much that, today, I have also decided to bring you five wheel chairs," he said.
Welcoming the Mayor and his entourage, Dr Samuel Asiamah, Director of Medical Affairs at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital thanked the Mayor for the kind gesture towards the plight of the people.
Also Dr. Nortey of the Korle-Bu Polyclinic commended the Mayor and stated that, "This is really a demonstration of a talk being walked."
According to Dr Nortey, developmental projects been undertaken are a clear manifestation of his commitment and dedication to serve the people diligently and that there is the need for all to offer support for the AMA and the Mayor to succeed in making the Accra a Millennium City.
