The establishment of a legislative instrument to regulate the establishment of private medical laboratories is not an absolute solution to quality assuarance of the clinical laboratory services.The legislative instrument should ensure the seeting up of a body that will make inspection of every existing medical lab mandatory every two years. It must also make sure that the labs are headed and or managed by a medical doctor or a qualified a medical Laboratory scientist or technologist.It must also ensure that all laboratory test are requested by a practicing physician or Medical doctor and not by the laboratory staff . This leads to misdiagnosis The body must make sure that all existing labs documents Quality control measure as well as quality assuarance indicators . The legislative instruments should empower the the body to set standards for all laboratories to follow and also have the authority to sanction violator of the standards or codes of ethics. It is high time we do things right in Ghana .The lab is the fulcrum of Medicine so compromising lab results is compromising the effots of effective treatment.
