Engage psychologists to counsel people who suffer severe burns

Top.generic.health

Kumasi, Nov 4, GNA - A man who has been scarred by fire on Thursday appealed for psychologists to be attached to the Burns scar Unit of hospitals to counsel people who suffer severe burns. Mr Dennis Opoku-Gyamfi said this was necessary to overcome the physical and emotional trauma they go through and move on with their lives.

Mr Opoku-Gyamfi, who spoke to the GNA in an interview, poured scorn on the situation where people disfigured by burns are despised and stigmatized by society.

"We certainly deserve better than this. We need to be supported and encouraged to put the bitter experience behind us." He said to help identify, empower and advocate for these people, he has set up what he called the "Ghana Burns Survivors Foundation."

The Foundation would work in close partnership with appropriate institutions to carry out education on the prevention of fires and proper=

handling of burn victims. He said their goal is to become a leading organization that would provide support and to champion the needs and concerns of survivors.
