NGO deworms over 17, 298 pupils in Saboba
Saboba, (N/R), March 1, GNA- Tuma Kavi, Development Association a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) on Thursday carried out a deworming exercise for over 17,298 basic school pupils in the Saboba district of the northern region.
The exercise which was carried out at the circuits of Saboba, Wapuli, Kpalba and Sanguli was through the Demonk- Kpalba Area Child Development Programme and under the auspices of the Christian Childrens' Fund of Canada (CCFC) in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Ghana Education Service (GES). Mr. John Abu Mahama, Programme Manager of Tuma Kavi said the exercise was to complement the efforts of the GHS in providing quality health care to the people, especially those in the inaccessible areas. He said the exercise would be a regular one for schools in the NGOs catchment area and not a one day wonder, adding that the drug Albendazole was administered to the pupils because of its minimal side effects.
Mr. Charles Akatuk, the District Director of Education commended the NGO for the intervention and said it could not have come at a better time since the area was flood prone and most schools would not have benefited from the exercise if it had been carried out in the rainy season.
