Korblah edges out Torgah for Accra Open glory

Emos Korblah closed with 7-under 281 to edge out Vincent Torgah to claim Accra Open big prize of GHC15, 000.00 in the Pros division. Going into the final round with a slim one shot ahead of his closest contender, crucial 71 shots laced with four birdies and several pars carried him to a seven-shot victory over Vincent.
Sharing day one lead with Vincent on 71, Korblah shot an amazing 65 on day two to cushion his chances en route to day three. An uninspiring 74 on day three could not even taint his domination as Emos responded with a comfortable 71 shots where Torgah crumbled with a disappointing 77 to complete the event.
“I am happy for my output; the game was kind of a roller coaster,” he said, adding, “I needed to end the year on a brilliant note so I am happy I came up on top eventually.” Emos told The Golfer newspaper. Emos Korblah’s Accra Open victory brings to three his total major wins in the year and other similar feats in Nigeria.
The Accra Open was the final full-field event of the year and unlike Emos, Vincent at this stage could only mark time whiles he put in some more strategies to possibly upstage Emos in 2013.
“This is not the best I hoped for; I put in so much for this game, I spent up to eight hours of my time working the course and was solid for the game,” he noted, adding “unfortunately, I lost to a more experienced Emos.”
Vincent opened the campaign on a score of 71 after sinking three birdies, two bogeys and fourteen pars. He shot a remarkable 69 on day two to stay in contention and followed it up with 71 on day three. He met his waterloo after a disappointing final 77 to bring his overall tally to 288 for a cash prize of GH8000.00.
Joint third placed winners, S. K Klah and Kojo Barni received GHC4000.00 each as prizes. The Accra Open hosted by the premier Achimota Golf Club, remains arguably the most exciting golf event in Ghana and this year’s event showed lots of class, huge patronage, massive sponsorship, and assembled some of golf’s greatest personalities.
Business mogul Sir Sam Jonah, gracefully accepted the special Guest of Honor invitation and explained that, “It is a privilege to be the guest of honor for what has been a leading tournament that has over the years always brought together the best golfers in our country and sub-region.”
Telecommunication giant, MTN, sponsored the event, with huge support from Virgin Atlantic, Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd, Doscar Travels, McGinley Designs, Kinross, Fairlopp Ghana and PZ Cussons.
