If you bothered to read critically, you would realize that I never blame anybody for our woes. I blame ourselves. The premise of my argument is that we Gas are politically asleep. My conclusion is: so everybody takes us for granted. Can you appreciate the logic of my presentation? I hope so. My ire is with ourselves--our idiotic complacency; the easily-pleased, simplistic, tomfoolish dolts, and vision-deficient simpletons we have for leaders. Those are the ones my fury is directed at, not any political party.
Of course, I am mad as hell that our Ga leaders are as effeminate as useless. Of course, I am furious that because we don't know the value of the political capital we possess, we sell ourselves so cheap that we end up literally paying our rapists to perpetrate their fraud on us. The other day, I was shocked to hear Gas at Chorkor embarked on "jama," happily singing that they don't want free JSS and SSS, because they want to work and get the money to pay the school fees of their wards, thus they would not vote for Akuffo-Addo (Mind you, I did not, and I am not endorsing Akuffo-Addo, but I am willing to heap praise where it is due). Meanwhile, these same people complain that Ga children are being edged out because of lack of education. Can you appreciate this tendency to self-destruct? This is what is "eating" me up.
Isn't ironic that Mahama had free education throughout his life, yet would be so hypocritical to shoot down free education as being a recipe for mediocrity? Of course, my fellow Gas binged on that nonsense so much that we voted for NDC without asking for any quid pro quo. Why then does any Ga think Mahama will pay us any political dividend if we could so easily spread our legs for him like the politically gratuitous prostitutes we've become?
Isaac, sorry for my monologue, but at least you get my drift. I am not picking on NDC or NPP, or, for that matter, any groups, whether ethnic, commercial, or political; I am lamenting my own ethnic group's untenably self-administered emasculation.
Where are the Ga men and women who once stood for something? Where are the Nii Kwabena Bones? Where are the Attoh-Ahumahs? Where are the Sargent Adjeteys and Odartey Lampteys?
I urge all Ga sons and daughters to rise and give Mahama no peace until he pays us good dividend for our votes.
Rise my brothers and sisters and make Accra uncomfortable and ungovernable for Mahama, unless he puts our sons and daughters in strategic positions where we can affect policy.

I am a bonafide Ga on both sides; however, I will be the first to admit that my group's lack of political tact is very worrying, and almost borders on stupidity! Where are our leaders? Isn't it amazing that we are all too willing to de-stool the current Ga-Mantse, Dr. Blankson, a man with stellar academic credentials, and to replace him with somebody who could not go beyond the O'level? Isn't it ironic that we are complaining that our children are not going to school, yet we are ready to remove from the helm a man who is a good model for education, and replace him with someone whose intellectual acumen could not be vouched for?
For how long do we Gas want to continue undermining our own interests? For starters, in 1951, Nkrumah stood as a candidate in present-day Odododiodioo (stupid name) and won, beating a bonafide Ga candidate. Gas were disproportionately incarcerated during Nkrumah's preventive detention act. Did we learn any lesson from that? NO. In 1979, Gas massively voted for PNP, led by Hilla Limann. Were Gas given a proportionate share of ministerial appointments? NO.
I hate to admit that NPP did a better job of giving our sons and daughters more recognition, yet we blindly helped the NDC to kick them out in 2008, and did same during the recent elections. Have we learnt any lessons? NO. It irks me to hear people like K.B. Asante, Bright Akwetey, Okaija Adamafio, etc, strutting all over the place, blindly and foolishly playing politics with Ga issues, all in the name of identifying with a certain ideological leaning.
When Mills came to power in 2008, the two most senior army officers, Sampa-Nunoo, and Odotei, were Gas. What happened to them? Both of them were retired on the same day so as to pave way for the current CDS, Augustine Blay. Did any Ga raise hell? NO. We were rather happy to incessantly badger Kuffour to vacate a bungalow! How stupid and small-thinking could we be? When Mills had his first cabinet reshuffle, the only substantive cabinet ministers to lose their portfolios were Gas--Tettey-Enyo and Zita Okaikoi. Did any Ga leader ask why? NO. Please don't tell me Zita was unfit for office. I may grudgingly agree, but I will bet my last dime, that she was of the same team B caliber, or even better, than some of the ministers who were not touched. For how long are we Gas going to fall for slogans and not substance?
I don't want to play the tribal card, but can anybody honestly envisage a Ga standing as a candidate against an Ewe in Eweland or a Gonja in Gonjaland, and beating the Ewe or Gonja candidate? Yet we Gas were all too happy to vote for non-Gas in core Ga constituencies to beat bonafide Ga candidates. How can Okity-Duah, a non-Ga beat Nortey-Dua, a true Ga, in the NDC primaries, and then go on to beat Dr. Norley Ashitey, a well-educated, true Ga, in the general elections? Again, please spare me your diatribe for sounding tribalistic; I can't help it. In "Things Fall Apart," Eneke, the bird, said: "Since men have learnt to shoot without missing their mark, it has also learnt to fly without perching on a twig." If others will play the tribal card to get their groups in strategic places, it will be unpardonably tragic for Gas to continue to be blind to reality. Maybe it is time to resuscitate the "Ga shifimo Kpee." Maybe it is time to fend for our own.
Where are the Attoh Kwashis? Where are the Kwartelai Quarteys? Where are the Asaaba Quarcoos? Where are the Tokyo Joe Boys?
It is time for Gas to pursue our own ends! Patriotism is a hollow word. Nationalism is a mirage. It is time for Gas to seek and protect our own!
Attah-Mills had nothing to offer Gas. Mahama certainly will treat us like the political expedients we are, unless we bitch and raise hell and threaten to make Accra uncomfortable for him.

Honestly, I don't feel like commenting on this post and the comments made so far, despite the red-herring of the ubiquitous "Ewe" taking centre stage again. But, when certain things are not said, we shall continue to have these types of expressions and feelings.
First, I wonder whether the writer and other commentators who feel like him know why "Ewes" have been nicknamed "Ayigbes" by the Gas and the meaning of that word. So, I'd ask what someone named Fiifii Kwetey, obvious non-"Ewe" names, is doing being elected as MP for Ketu South? And why people of Ga-Adangme descent are doing in obvious "Ewe" territory, from Togo to Ada, ruling as chiefs there? Or, they don't know that Ada area is or was "Ewe" territory too? Oh! Perhaps, they may like to go to Sempe and ask a few qs about their origins. And then find out why there is Lashibi in Anloga and in Ga land too, near Nungua. That may help to explain to them why so many "Ewes" have made Accra their home and feel that Ga belong to them too.
Secondly, the writer, unfortunately doesn't seem to know that strength lies in numbers, something our ancestors knew very well, and so augmented their population by assimilating large number of captives or slaves and fugitives (today's equivalent of refugees). I therefore find his attempt to cut off the Adangmes, the core origins or source of the Gas, from the Gas not only most regrettable but a quest based on ignorance of Ga origins.
I believe in appointments by merit, not regional nor tribal yardsticks. Only the best is fit to lead us, must be the motto. The Ga-Adangmes haven't been doing badly in the public sector, being the only group found to be significantly over-represented in studies done in the 1970s. And they have the best goodies of modernity right on their door steps, whether they have a Minister in Cabinet or not. Just take advantage of them, for heaven sake!
Korle-Bu is just across the Korle Gonno and the Chorkor stretch but the health personnel at Korle Bu will testify that high levels of child malnutrition treated there come from that stretch! Why? What are the solutions? Certainly not making a Ga a Minister of Health!
People, let us get serious and rise above the mundane issue of tribe and ethnicity.

Andy K, it is your prerogative to think how and what you may, but it will be treacherous for you to make factually spurious and unmeritorious claims. Who said Ada is part of Eweland? Are you trying to assert that the Ewes left Notsie before 1510 AD? Anyway, I am not going into the archives to dredge up facts to prop up my arguments, because if you read my piece carefully, you would realize that I was doing an introspection of our own collective Ga psyche; I did not single out any tribe as the cause of our woes. I rather took issues with our own Ga leaders. The reference to Ewe and Gonja was a rhetorical device I employed to bring our worrying simplism into sharp relief. If you have issues with that, I can't help you; you can go ahead and berate me all you want, I just don't care.
Somewhere in 1986, Rawlings stood before a gathering of Ga chiefs, including the then Ga Mantse, Nii Amugi, and boldly rained down insults on them. What do you think happened? The chiefs clapped and broke into a spontaneous chants of "Jerry, Jerry, Jerry." I hold we Gas ourselves responsible for whatever has befallen us. Is that point too hard for you to understand? Where in my write-up did I allude to Gas being among the top elite in Ghana? Or are you trying to put words in my mouth to enable you wax philosophical on some obscure point or topic?
And oh yes, I know of the Ga connection to some of the people of Aneho in present-day Togo. But what about that? Does that prove anything? It seems you have elected to be the arch-guardian of Ewe sacrosanctness, so whenever anyone mentions or cites anything that directly or passingly references Ewe, your guards go up. Please quit being so simultaneously defensive and chauvinistic. It caricatures you as woolly-brained and neophytic.
By the way, I would grant you your correct divination of my quest to whip up the anger of Gas. Yes, that is my aim, but it is to serve a goal that is far from, and diametrically opposed to your undisguised predilection for Ewe superiority. That's how the land guards and the new agitation for Ga lands phenomena ws born, with the Teshie-Nungua people taking the lead, with main focus on the Lashibi lands, the Dodowa episode and spreading to the whole of Ga lands and boomeranging on the NPP themselves! So I wonder where your mob rousing tactics will lead to, with "Ewes" already identified in the main article as culprits, with names provided, as if other non-Gas did not also win in Accra of Ga. Oh! Adangbes were also identified as outsiders, less I forget! Very myopic outlook, I said!
