Moree Beach Resort inaugurated

Moree(C/R), July 30, GNA - A two billion cedis Moree Beach Resort was inaugurated at Moree, near Cape Coast last Saturday. Work on the five chalets beach resort, jointly owned by Ms Marianne Holst, Chairperson of the Board of Directors and Mr Joe Vugu, Managing Director of MAJOVU limited, the company that financed the project began in 2003 and completed this year.

Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Diasporean Relations in an address read on his behalf by his Special Assistant Mr Abeiku Dickson, advised workers to endeavour to improve and develop their workplaces to reap maximum benefits.

He said "The get rich quick attitude" had resulted in a drain on the resources of private-sector institutions leading to their collapse and an increase in the unemployment rate in the country.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey asked the community to provide the investors the needed assistance and moral support to enhance further development of the tourist attractions and potentials in the Central Region, which had been destined the tourism enclave of Ghana.

He commended efforts of the management of the Resort and urged the workers not to make monetary gains their priority but strive to work hard to promote the expansion and success of the business. Alhaji Abubakar Sadiqque Boniface, Minister of Manpower Development, Youth and Employment in an address read on his behalf said Government was committed to promote the private sector as the engine of growth of the economy.

He assured the investors of Government's assistance to enable them achieve their desired goals and commended them on their entrepreneurial spirit.

Alhaji Boniface noted that the resort would reduce the unemployment rate in the area and urged invertors to emulate the example of the Management to create more jobs for the people.

Briefing newsmen later, Ms Holst said the resort, designed in a Ghanaian style and furnished with Ghanaian furniture, was to showcase Ghanaian products to tourists and Ghanaians and each of the five chalets comprised two self-contained rooms.

She said their vision was to operate a resort that was attractive and affordable to both Ghanaians and tourists hence their rent charge of 400,000 cedis for a chalet per night and 30,000 cedis for meals.

Ms Holst said the management in addition, arranged tours for their clients to visit tourist attractive sites in the region and other parts of the country.

She said the resort now had 18 staff including management and security and after completion of their expansion works more people would be employed. Ms Holst said the company had acquired land at Bole in the Northern Region to construct another resort in future. 30 July 06
