Slave Market is 'Visitor Attraction for 2005'

Bono-Manso(B/A), May 17, GNA - The management of Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) has adjudged the Bono-Manso slave market tourist centre in the Brong-Ahafo Region as the 'Visitor Attraction for 2005'. The GTB also honoured Nana Asante Nyarko, Kaneasehene and a sub-chief of the area.

Mr Seth Asah, Assemblyman for Manso disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bono-Manso on Tuesday, during the presentation of the citation on the award to the people.

In the citation, the management of GTB expressed interest at the manner the centre had within a short period endeared itself with domestic and foreign tourists especially African-Americans and Blacks in the Diaspora.

Mr Asah said the people of Bono-Manso had established a drama group that portrayed the story of the slave trade and making the centre unique to attract more visitors to study from the centre. Nana Nyarko was commended for his efforts as a tour guide who led visitors to inspect the centre.

The GTB also described Nana Nyarko as a responsible elder and father knowledgeable in history and proud of the culture of the people and very informative to diverse tourist groups that visited the centre. Mr Asah expressed appreciation to the GTB for the honour to the Bono Manso community and appealed to the people to unite and contribute towards the development of the centre to help improve on their living standards.
