American University awards Jefferson Sackey, others with Honorary Doctorates

Ghanaian journalist, Jefferson Sackey of Multimedia Group, has been handed an honorary doctorate by the Day Spring Christian University of Mississipi, USA during a ceremony in Accra.

Day Spring Christian University awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Humanity for his contribution to human rights awareness at the ceremony held at the Graduate School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences of the University of Ghana on August 30, 2014.

Jefferson Sackey became the youngest to be awarded a Doctorate by the Mississipi based university.

Jefferson started his journalism career in 2003 had his first career breakthrough with TV Africa where he become an international correspondent. He is now working with the Multimedia group in Accra, Ghana and continues to do human rights reporting.

Over the years, Jefferson has interviewed Kofi Annan, the former United Nation Secretary General, former South African President Thabo Mbeki, and former Nigerian President Oleshegu Obasanjo among others, and has reported from Iran, Rwanda, Cuba, Russia, and China.

Past recipients of the Honorary Doctorate Award from the US University are Ghana's Speaker of parliament, Right Hon. Dr. Doe Adjaho and Coach of Ghana's national football team, Dr. Kwesi Appiah.

He was awarded alongside Ghana’s Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Sherry Ayittey, National Disaster Management Organisation boss, Kofi Portuphy, Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Abraham Koomson and Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, Kofi Asamoah among the 12 awardees who have been recognised for their exemplary roles in Ghana’s development in their various fields.
