Landlady ‘Bombs’ Tenant With Urine!

A landlady who was bent on ejecting a ‘stubborn tenant’ who refused to pay extra rent advance, did the unthinkable.

Sarah Malm, the landlady stored a bucketful of putrefied, urine for two months, broke into the room of the tenant, Madam Comfort Adoboe and splashed the urine in the room and on all her belongings to teach her a bitter lesson.

Sarah, is facing trial at the Amasaman Magistrate Court.

She had pleaded not guilty to the charges of unlawful entry, inducing a tenant to quit, causing unlawful damage; and offensive conduct.

The Presiding Judge, Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku has however, granted Sarah, a GH¢3,000 bail with a surety.

The prosecutor, Sergeant F. W. K. Ansah told the court that, Madam Adoboe paid a three year rent advance to Sarah before occupying her room as a tenant, at Apenkwa Presby Area in Accra.

He said, somewhere in 2011, Sarah demanded more rent advance from Madam Adoboe to enable her to further her education.

The prosecutor said Madam Adoboe refused to pay, because her rent advance had not been exhausted. She later reported the harassment to the Rent Control Office in Accra.

Sergeant Ansah said on October 11, 2011, Sarah went and locked Madam Adoboe’s door with an extra padlock in her absence.

He said not satisfied, Sarah, at about 6am, on October 16, 2011, went to the house, in Madam Adoboe’s absence forced the doors open, and threw her personnel belongings, valued at GH¢2,300 outside.

The prosecutor said, Sarah went further and poured the putrefied bucketful of urine on the items, and later poured some in the room. Madam Adoboe returned to find her room broken into, and her belongings drenched in urine outside.

He said, the case was reported to the Tesano Police and Sarah was arrested and charged with the offence.

Sarah, who was initially remanded by the court, jumped bail several times, before she was re-arrested for prosecution. The case has been adjourned to December 17, for continuation.
