MUSIGA to release songs to promote peaceful elections

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has called on all musicians in Ghana to submit songs for a compilation aimed at trumpeting the message of peace before, during and after the general elections.

These songs, a statement by the music body said, will play a crucial role in “sending out the message of the ‘MUSIGA Campaign for Peace, Unity and Tolerance for Election 2012 and Beyond.'”

There will be a special campaign by MUSIGA, starting Monday, November 12 to Friday November 16, which happens to be International Day of Tolerance.

Activities within this period will be geared towards promoting peace during the upcoming elections in December through the power of music.

Artistes, the statement said, are requested to send their songs, of any genre, to MUSIGA. Works can be submitted in either audio or video format.

“The songs should have an underlying message of peace and unity, and should be advocating for a peaceful election in December,” it said.

Twelve entries will be selected, after screening, from the total number received. These 12 songs will be produced by MUSIGA and featured on a compilation CD.

“The compilation CD will be released in the campaign week. Copies will be sold to the general public. The proceeds will serve as fundraising for MUSIGA,” the statement added.**
