Stray pigs destroy maize farm, owner of pigs in trouble

Asamankese, Feb. 28, GNA - The Asamankese Circuit court has granted a GH¢ 400 bail to Samuel Genu, whose stray pigs destroyed a maize farm.

Genu who pleaded guilty will return to the court on March 11 for his sentence after he had discussed and settled compensation with the owner of the pigs, Ale Damezu.

Prosecuting, Mr Samuel Danso, Head of the Environmental and Sanitation Unit of the West Akyem District Assembly told the court that on January 13, the complainant went to his maize farm and saw that pigs belonging to the accused were feeding on his maize, having already destroyed half of the four-acre farm.

He said the complainant reported the matter to the Environmental and Sanitation Unit, which issued a mandatory notice to Genu to explain why action should not be taken ageist him but he failed to appear. The prosecution said consequently on February 17, summons was served on Genu to appear in court.

At the same court, Ebenezer Amu, whose pigs also destroyed crops on a farm at Brekumaso was also granted GH¢ 200 bail with a surety to reappear on March 11. Jointly charged with him was Beatrice Amu, who was absent from court and a bench warrant was issued for her arrest. 28 Feb. 09
