Okyeame Quame Readies Solo Debut

Okyeame Quame goes solo OKYEAME QUAME, the youngest of the kumasi-based hip-life duo, Akyeame, is just about to drop a full-length album in his capacity as a solo artiste.

Come his birthday, that's March 17, 2004, Okyeame Quame's solo album called "Bohyeba" (The Promised Son) will hit the market nationwide.

You may recall that the title track of Akyeame?s debut album ?Mesan Aba?, went on record as the first song to win the Hip-life Song of the Year award at the Ghana Music Awards (2000). Between them, they have released four albums since they came together in 1997. The duo returned from London last August after three years of training in Sound and Video Production.

"We?ve been together throughout the years, seen it all together, rock the shows together, met the girls together, done the traveling, schooling together and I think its about time we tried something on solo grounds for a change". Quame told this reporter over the weekend, when he came to Accra to help promote Obrafour's latest Execution Diary compilation album. He was however quick to add that, the group has plans to do a star 're-union' project after two years as solo acts.

Details as to which label will handle Okyeame Quame's new album is still sketchy, but info available to us points to Mark Okraku Mantey's Slip Music as his most likely final destination. Mark has been a long time working mates of Akyeame's. Some of the top acts on ?Bohyeba? are Nana Quame (who appeared on Akyeame's 1998 Mesan Aba alongside Yoggi Doggi), Obrafour, Swazzy B, Root Eye among others.
