Ghana Music Awards 2013 might not be hosted at the Dome

Organizers of the biggest annual musical event in Ghana, Charter House, are currently torn between the devil and the deep blue sea over the venue for this year’s Ghana Music Awards (GMA).

Following the news which broke that the Dome at the Accra International Conference Centre was going to be shut down for renovation and reconstruction, the head of production for GHOne and Charter House, Nii Ayite Hammond, said currently, his outfit was still searching for a suitable venue for this year’s GMA.

“We are not happy about it but we are happy about it because obviously it’s been a while and the facility needs to be renovated based on some challenges over the years so it is good news but challenging news for us in terms of venue for this year’s GMA,” he remarked.

This year’s GMA, which is slated for April 8, will see various acts across the continent and the best acts from Ghana pick up awards from various categories ranging from Reggae song of the year, Hiplife song of the year, Best Collaboration of the year and Song writer of the year.

“We are looking at various options available but as at now, it is a little too early to make real conclusions since the event is in April.

We still have some time to make effective planning and considerations towards the event,” he noted.

The closure of the Dome for renovation and reconstruction works is ‘bitter sweet’ news to most event organizers in Ghana since the venue is their first port of call.
