Election turmoil will affect musicians most – Obour

MUSIGA president Obour has cautioned against all acts of violence during Wednesday’s polls.

Speaking on Viasat1’s Celebrity Fanzone, Obour (born Bice Osei Kuffour) illustrated what a troubling time instability could be, using examples from the 80s:

“If Ghana decide not to be peaceful and Ghana decides just to shake up a little bit, one industry that will suffer most is the music industry because again our work is entertainment. I remember in the 80s when I was a child and Ghana had a bit of shake up, there was a curfew, it was the music industry that was most hit. So for us as musicians, it is keenly important to be on the move to ensure that Ghana has a peaceful elections,” he said.

Weeks ago, MUSIGA released an all-star peace song featuring Tagoe Sisters, S.P Sarpong, Rev Dr Thomas Yawson, Gifty Osei, Joe Mettle and the Next Generation Ministers and Adane Best. Others include Iwan, A.K Songstress, Blakk Rasta, Dr Knii Lante and Ras Kuuku. Gasmilla, Nero X, Don Itchie, Tic Tac, Tinny, Atom, Gasmilla, Samini and Okyeame Kwame. Others include Ras Kuuku, Papa Wastik, Edem among others.

Ghana has since 1992, witnessed largely peaceful elections, and all stakeholders have over the past few months, been entreated to maintain the decorum which has made the country a beacon of hope to the rest of the continent.
